MongoDB
MongoDB is a cross-platform document oriented database program, the most intuitive way to work with the data generated by today's applications.
The complete rebrand for MongoDB retained only the leaf motif and green color from the original brand while inventing a new visual system that’s as expansive and unique as their technology.

TYPOGRAPHY
We collaborated with Colophon Foundry to design a custom font, MongoDB Value Serif, that is distinct, elegant and impactful when paired with the rest of our design system.
DESIGN SYSTEM
The foundation of the design system is based on a 4 x 4 grid, taking inspiration from the assembly of bits, the smallest unit of data. This grid enables an alive, shape-shifting, ever-evolving nature to the brand components, providing endless flexibility in their usage. The construction of the shapes uses rubberband physics atop a pins grid as guidance to create shapes within the system.
ICONOGRAPHY
As a technical and information heavy brand, MongoDB relies on efficient and expansive iconography within the brand system. The icons are constructed atop a smaller grid system using the same rubberband principles of physics to ensure consistency.
ILLUSTRATIONS
The Illustration system uses a 2D but 3D approach, using principles of perspective with added shadows to convey depth, volume and energy within the simplest of compositions.
BRAND GUIDELINES
We created extensive brand guidelines outlining the foundational principles of the visual system, illustrations, iconography, photography, and tone of voice to give the MongoDB creative team all the tools and assets needed for immediate use as well as expanding the brand in the future.
